SendGrid Connection
The SendGrid Connection sends email through a configured SendGrid account. It supports plain-text messages, HTML messages, and SendGrid templates from Page Flow, Cloud Flow, and the Server API.
The Profile stores the API key. The Connection stores the default sender address, allowing several sender Connections to reuse the same SendGrid account when appropriate.
Capabilities
| Capability | Availability |
|---|---|
| Connection service identifier | sendgrid |
| Page Flow commands | Send plain-text, HTML, or template-based email |
| Cloud Flow commands | Send plain-text, HTML, or template-based email |
| Server API | $io.sendgrid |
| Authenticated SDK object | Supported through service name sendgrid |
| AI Agent Connection support | Supported |
Provider Preparation
Prepare a SendGrid API key with only the permissions required by the Project. Verify any sender identity or domain required by the SendGrid account before relying on the Connection.
Profile Settings
The Profile requires:
| Setting | Purpose |
|---|---|
| API Key | Authenticates requests to SendGrid. |
Use separate Profiles when test and production email must use different accounts or keys.
Connection Settings
| Setting | Purpose |
|---|---|
| From Address | Default sender address used by the Connection. |
The sender address must be allowed by the configured SendGrid account. A syntactically valid address can still be rejected if provider verification or policy requirements are not satisfied.
Commands
The Connection exposes commands for:
- Sending a plain-text email.
- Sending an HTML email.
- Sending an email using a SendGrid template.
Command inputs can include recipients, CC and BCC addresses, subject, message or template information, and supported optional properties. Use the command selector or the $io.sendgrid reference for the exact parameters.
Commands support both Page Flow and Cloud Flow. Page Flow initiates the request, while the server executes it using the Profile's API key.
Access
The Connection exposes a Send Emails Access operation. Public access is allowed but produces a warning.
Public email submission can be abused for spam, quota consumption, or unwanted messages. Prefer an authenticated group or a Cloud Flow Web Hook that validates recipients, content, frequency, and application-specific rules.
Choosing an Interface
| Need | Recommended Interface |
|---|---|
| Send a supported message from visual logic | Execute Connection Command |
| Send through custom Cloud Flow JavaScript | $io.sendgrid |
| Use additional supported SendGrid SDK functionality | Connection-backed SDK object |
| Let an AI Agent perform supported email operations | Add the Connection through the appropriate AI Agent configuration and review its permitted actions |
Testing
Send test messages only to controlled recipients. Verify sender acceptance, recipient formatting, template identifiers and substitutions, and failure handling.
Preview and Test Mode can send real email and consume the provider account's quota.
