Twilio Connection

The Twilio Connection sends and manages SMS or MMS messages through a configured Twilio account. Its commands are server-only, so use them from Cloud Flow rather than Page Flow.

Page Flow commandsNot available
Cloud Flow commandsSend, list, read, update, and delete messages

Provider Preparation

Prepare the Twilio account information used by the Project:

  • Account SID.
  • Either the account Auth Token or an API Key and its secret.
  • A Twilio phone number or Messaging Service appropriate to the intended messages.
  • Any provider registration, geographic, or messaging-compliance requirements.

Profile Settings

SettingPurpose
Account SIDIdentifies the Twilio account.
API KeyOptional API Key identifier.
Auth Token/API Key SecretUses the Auth Token when no API Key is supplied, or the API Key secret when an API Key is supplied.

The Connection has no additional service fields beyond its name and selected Profile.

Commands

CommandAccess Category
Send MessageSend Messages
List MessagesList Messages
Read MessageList Messages
Update MessageUpdate Messages
Delete MessageDelete Messages

The send operation requires a destination, message body, and either a source phone number or Messaging Service. Other operations use the provider message SID where applicable.

These commands support the server context only. They appear in Cloud Flow command selection but are not valid Page Flow commands.

Access

Twilio exposes separate Access operations for sending, listing, updating, and deleting messages. Public access is not allowed for these operations.

Apply the smallest appropriate User Groups to each operation. A user who may send a notification does not necessarily need permission to list account messages or delete them.

When a Page initiates messaging through a Cloud Flow Web Hook, the Cloud Flow must validate the caller, recipient, content, and business rule before using the Connection.

Choosing an Interface

Use Execute Connection Command in Cloud Flow for the supported command set. Use $io.twilio for documented custom-code methods. Obtain the authenticated Twilio SDK object only when the supported SDK operation is not already covered by the direct Server API.

Testing

Use a provider test account or controlled recipients when possible. Verify:

  • The source phone number or Messaging Service belongs to the configured account.
  • The destination uses the format expected by Twilio.
  • Trial-account restrictions and provider compliance requirements are satisfied.
  • Delivery status and provider errors are handled.

Cloud Flow tests can send real messages and create provider charges.
